New: Public Pastes — Share Your Knowledge
New: pastes can now be made Public — a way to share code, configs, and settings with the whole community, not just whoever you hand a link to.
What's new
- Public visibility — a third option alongside Private and Shared. Public pastes can be tagged, discovered, and surfaced as related content elsewhere on the site. Private and Shared work exactly as they always have — nothing changes for existing pastes.
- Tags — public pastes can carry topic tags (openscad, gcode-tuning, calibration, whatever fits). Tag a paste and it becomes discoverable anywhere that tag is relevant.
- Attach to a specific device, board, or material — got settings dialed in for your printer, or a working config for a specific dev board? Head to that device's page and hit "Share settings/code for this" — it's pre-attached, no searching through 500+ machines required.
- Related Pastes — howtos and hardware pages can now show relevant community pastes right alongside the content, wherever it genuinely fits. This is opt-in per page, not automatic everywhere.
- Public directory — browse every public paste under a given tag, sorted by views, in one place.
How it's labeled
Every public paste shown anywhere on the site carries a clear badge — 1c3d.com for official pastes, Community for everything submitted by other users — so it's always obvious at a glance what you're looking at.
Try it
Check out the new OpenSCAD parametric design howto — it's got a real community paste showing up as related content, tagged openscad. That's this whole feature working in one place.
