Wolfpawn 4040 Pro — Machine Reference

The Wolfpawn 4040 Pro is a desktop CNC router running a GRBL 1.1F controller. Work area 400×400×90mm. Belt-driven X/Y axes, linear guide + TR8-2T lead screw Z axis. 500W brushless spindle. Amazon-only brand — no standalone manufacturer website.

UGS (Universal Gcode Sender) Setup

  2. Select baud: 115200
  3. Select your COM port
  4. Click Connect
  5. Run homing cycle to reference machine position

CNCjs Setup

  3. Click Connect

Candle Setup

Spindle

  • Speed range: 0–10,000 RPM
  • Control: S0–S1000 in G-code maps to 0–100% spindle speed (set via GRBL $30=1000)
  • Startup: Let spindle reach full speed (3–5 seconds) before engaging the cut
  • Minimum useful speed: Most bits perform best above 8,000 RPM on desktop CNC

Always seat the bit fully in the collet and tighten with both provided wrenches — a loose bit at high RPM is dangerous.

Work Zero / Homing

  1. Home the machine (homing button or $H command)
  2. Jog to your work zero position
  3. Zero X, Y, Z individually in your software
  4. Run your toolpath

For Z-zero: use a paper test or a touch plate. Never rely on visual alignment for Z.

Common Issues

Machine losing position mid-job: Check for loose grub screws on stepper motor pulleys. Re-tighten every few months.

Bit breaking on first pass: Feed rate too high or depth of cut too aggressive. Start conservative — halve your feed rate and DOC, then increase.

Spindle runout: Collet nut not fully tightened, or dirty collet taper. Clean the ER11 taper and nut threads with a soft brush.

GRBL alarm on connect: Type $X in the console to clear the alarm, then home the machine.

Chatter / vibration: Reduce feed rate, increase RPM, check workholding. Chatter at the bit means something is loose — workpiece, collet, or machine frame.
