CNC Bit Type Reference
Choosing the Right CNC Bit Up-Cut: Pulls chips UP. Best for clearing deep pockets. Can splinter the top surface. Down-Cut: Pushes chips DOWN. Leaves a perfect top finish. Not for deep pockets (clogs). Compression: A mix of both. Best for plywood; leaves clean edges on top and bottom. Ball Nose: Rounded tip. Used for 3D contours and carvings. V-Bit: Pointed tip. Used for signs, text, and chamfering.
