xTool D1 Pro
Buying notes: xTool D1 Pro
Who it suits
Buyers who want an open-frame diode laser with a large bed, mainly for engraving and thin cutting, and who will add ventilation and an enclosure. It also suits people already using LightBurn.
Known issues and quirks
Clever Creations reports an overly sensitive flame sensor that tripped at random, GRBL settings that can't be changed, and no emergency stop. CNX Software notes locked firmware, a LightBurn profile that must be imported manually, and snag-prone wire management. LightBurn 2.1.00 and 2.1.01 reportedly stopped the D1 Pro homing and moving, and 2.1.02 was announced to fix it.
Common upgrades and accessories
Honeycomb bed, air assist compressor kit, enclosure with exhaust, RA2 Pro rotary and a 1064 nm infrared module for metal. Makerhacks calls the honeycomb bed and air assist the two upgrades that matter most for cutting.
Tips
Masking tape visibly improved results in CNX's tests. Seat all cables fully, since loose ones caused a limit-switch problem during setup. Vent the fumes; even a DIY inline-fan exhaust left a smoke smell in one workshop.
