xTool P2 55W CO2
Buying notes: xTool P2
Who it suits
Makers who want an enclosed desktop CO2 laser for wood and acrylic with camera-assisted placement, and who can afford the price and space. Gadgeteer's reviewer called it a "fabulous machine" and named price and nozzle height as the main drawbacks.
Known issues and quirks
The reviewer found the camera image quality poor and Quick-Measure often failing. The nozzle sits about 3 mm above the material, which makes clamping awkward. It weighs about 45 kg, and small parts can fall through the slats. Wi-Fi reportedly dropped until the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks were given separate names.
Common upgrades and accessories
The riser base is required for the rotary and conveyor feeder. The RA2 Pro rotary handles cylindrical items. An air purifier and a fire safety set are optional.
Tips
Re-run "Optical Path Setup" after moving the machine, since mirror alignment can shift. Use distilled or purified water in the cooling loop. Prefer Aimed-Measure to Quick-Measure for focusing, and use only a few slats under thick material.
