Aluminum Bronze C954
Generic / House Brand
☀ UV Stable
⬡ Chemical Resistant
Overview
High-strength aluminum bronze (C95400) with 77% Cu, 11% Al, 4% Fe, 1% Mn. Yield strength ~275 MPa — significantly stronger than common brass or phosphor bronze. Excellent wear resistance and anti-galling properties make it the bearing bronze of choice for heavy-duty applications.

Pros
- High strength for a copper alloy (275+ MPa yield)
- Excellent wear and seizure resistance — non-galling
- Outstanding corrosion resistance in seawater
- Non-sparking (safe for explosive environments)
- Attractive gold appearance
- Good machinability with correct parameters
- FDA-compliant grades for food equipment
Cons
- Expensive — copper alloys cost 5-10× aluminum
- Heavy (7.45 g/cc)
- Requires sharp carbide or cobalt tooling
- Tarnishes over time without lacquer
- Copper content means NOT food safe for acidic foods (copper leaching)
- Difficult to weld
Best For
- Sleeve bearings and bushings|Marine propellers and shafts|Hydraulic valve bodies|Gear blanks|Non-sparking tools for explosive environments|Heavy-duty wear plates
Avoid For
- Food contact with acidic foods|Lightweight applications|Cost-sensitive structural use|Welded assemblies (difficult to weld)
Storage
Store dry. Apply lacquer or clear coat to preserve gold appearance. Will develop greenish patina over time without coating. Chips should be collected — copper alloy chips have scrap value.
