MDF
Overview
MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood product made from fine wood fibers bonded with resin under heat and pressure. It has a uniform density throughout, no wood grain, and machines exceptionally well on CNC routers. The smooth, consistent surface is ideal for detailed CNC work, V-carving, painting, and laminating. MDF is the go-to material for painted signs, cabinet doors, prototyping, and furniture components. Available in various densities and thicknesses from 3mm to 25mm.

Storage
Store flat in dry environment. Avoid moisture exposure which causes swelling and delamination. Seal edges before painting.
Laser Compatibility
WARNING: MDF releases formaldehyde fumes when cut — strong ventilation mandatory. CO2: cut 3mm at 200mm/s 60W; engrave at 500mm/s 30%. Diode: cut 3mm in 2-3 passes at 80-100% power. Cuts very cleanly with uniformly dark edges. Do not use without exhaust fan — formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.
