Overview
Polyether Ether Ketone — the apex of FDM engineering filaments. Biocompatible, chemically inert to almost all solvents, service temperature up to 250°C, and mechanical properties approaching machined aluminium. Requires a dedicated high-temperature printer (450°C+ hotend, 120°C+ bed, heated chamber). Reserved for aerospace, medical, and extreme-environment applications.

Pros
  • Exceptional mechanical properties approaching aluminium
  • Service temp 250°C+
  • Chemically inert to almost all solvents and acids
  • Biocompatible — implant-grade available
  • Flame retardant
  • Radiation resistant
  • Excellent fatigue resistance
Cons
  • Requires 450°C+ hotend — only dedicated machines
  • Needs 120°C+ bed and 120°C+ chamber
  • Extremely expensive (€200-500/kg)
  • Very slow print speeds
  • Difficult to dial in
  • Limited printer compatibility (Apium, AON, Roboze)
Best For
  • Aerospace structural components|Implantable medical devices|Chemical processing equipment|High-temperature jigs and fixtures|Semiconductor handling|Oil and gas downhole tools
Avoid For
  • Any standard consumer printer|Cost-sensitive projects|Any application where PA-CF or PC would suffice
Storage
Low moisture absorption but store sealed regardless. Dry at 150°C for 3-4h before printing. Very long shelf life when sealed.
