Pros
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • High fatigue resistance
  • Living hinge capability
  • Lightweight
  • Food safe (pure PP)
  • Low friction
Cons
  • Poor bed adhesion without PP-specific surface
  • High warping tendency
  • Stringing issues
  • Limited color availability
  • Requires enclosed chamber for large prints
Best For
  • Living hinges
  • chemical containers
  • automotive parts
  • outdoor applications
  • food storage prototypes
Avoid For
  • High-temperature applications above 100°C
  • parts requiring high rigidity
  • detailed miniatures
Storage
Store in airtight container with desiccant. PP is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture which causes poor print quality.
Laser Compatibility
PP can be cut on CO2 laser but melts rather than vaporizes — edges are fused not burnt. CO2: cut 2mm at 200mm/s 40W; avoid engraving — poor contrast. Produces acrid fumes — ventilate well. Diode lasers are largely ineffective on natural PP. Not recommended for laser use; better suited to CNC routing.
