Powder-Coated Metal (Laser Engrave)
Generic / House Brand
☀ UV Stable
⬡ Chemical Resistant
Overview
Aluminum (or steel) substrate with powder-coat finish. CO2 or fiber laser removes the colored powder coating to expose bright bare metal underneath — creating high-contrast permanent marks. Quality result depends on powder-coat thickness and hardness. Most popular for custom tags, control panels, and industrial labels.

Pros
- High contrast — colored coating vs bright metal
- Permanent marking — does not fade or peel
- Professional appearance without additional finishing
- Works on any color powder coat
- Weather resistant when re-sealed
- Fast processing — single pass usually sufficient
Cons
- Result quality varies with powder-coat thickness and formulation
- Too much power blisters coating rather than removing cleanly
- Too little power leaves residue
- Cannot cut through the metal
- Requires re-sealing cut area for outdoor use
- Fiber laser preferred but CO2 works on thicker coatings
Best For
- Equipment nameplates and serial tags|Control panel labeling|Outdoor signage|Custom tool marking|Vehicle and equipment identification|Decorative home and workshop tags
Avoid For
- Cutting applications|Uncoated metal (use anodized aluminum instead)|Very thin coatings (<50µm may not remove cleanly)|Indoor use without re-sealing in corrosive environments
Storage
Store flat with protective film when possible. Handle to avoid scratching powder coat before laser processing. Re-seal exposed metal after engraving for outdoor/corrosive environments.
Laser Compatibility
Fiber laser (1064nm) preferred: 1000mm/s 60-80% power. CO2 80W: 200mm/s 90% power, single pass. Test power carefully — too high blisters coating and leaves raised edge; too low leaves residue. Remove blistered areas with IPA cloth if needed. Re-seal exposed metal with clear lacquer for outdoor use.
