Silk Fabric

Generic / House Brand
Overview
Protein-based natural fiber with characteristic luster and smooth hand. Laser engraving on silk creates subtle sheen changes rather than color burns. CO2 laser cuts with minimal charring at correct settings. Extremely delicate — low power critical. High cost material — extensive testing on scraps mandatory.

Storage
Store between acid-free tissue paper layers. Handle with clean cotton gloves — oils damage silk. Avoid direct sunlight. Silk degrades with UV and ozone exposure.
Laser Compatibility
CO2 80W: Engrave 500mm/s 10-12% power — EXTREMELY low power. Cut 25mm/s 30-35%. Stretch fabric taut on honeycomb with pins or tape — any movement destroys cut accuracy. Light air assist only — strong air blast displaces delicate fabric. Test on same-color scrap at least 5 settings before proceeding with final piece. Very unforgiving.
