Flame Polished vs. Matte Edges
When cutting clear acrylic, the goal is often a transparent, 'flame polished' edge straight off the laser bed. This requires balancing heat and speed.
Setting Up for the Cut
1. Ensure your lens is perfectly clean. 2. Use high air assist (30+ PSI) to blow away vaporized material and prevent flare-ups. 3. Slow down the cut speed (e.g., 2-5mm/s for 5mm acrylic) and use appropriate power (e.g., 80-90% on a 20W diode). The goal is to melt the edge slightly as it cuts, smoothing the surface. If you see 'chatter marks' or a cloudy finish, you are moving too fast.
