Laser Engraving Acrylic Edge-Lit Panels on the Ray5 20W Edge-lit acrylic signs use light entering from the edge to illuminate only the engraved areas — creating a glowing effect. Perfect for signage, trophy inserts, and display pieces. How It Works Light entering the edge of clear acrylic travels through by total internal reflection. Engraved areas scatter the light, making them glow. Unengraved areas remain invisible/clear. Acrylic Selection Cast acrylic (not extruded) — required for good light diffusion Clear only — frosted or colored acrylic reduces the edge-lit effect Typical thickness: 3mm or 6mm Standard sheet sizes: cut to your desired panel size first Engraving Settings Engrave on the back face — so light scatters forward through the front. Design Tips Bold, simple designs read better than fine detail when illuminated Text should be 12pt minimum Mirror your design (engrave from back, text needs to be reversed to read correctly from front) LED Base The LED light source can be: Dedicated LED base (purchase on Amazon — common for awards) LED strip along one edge, hidden in a housing Single LED module for small panels Color options: white, RGB, single color. RGB with remote lets you change the glow color. Housing/Frame Route a channel in wood or MDF to hold acrylic panel vertically LED strip in the channel, hidden by a ledge Power via USB or wall adapter Multiple Panels For a sign with multiple interchangeable panels, make the base standard and swap only the engraved panels.
