Delrin / POM Sheet (Laser)
DuPont
⬡ Chemical Resistant
Overview
Acetal (Delrin) sheet cut on CO2 laser for precision gears, brackets, and mechanical parts. Absorbs CO2 laser well with formaldehyde fumes as byproduct — critical exhaust requirement. Excellent dimensional accuracy. Diode lasers cannot cut Delrin.

Pros
- Precision cut edges
- Self-lubricating properties retained
- Good dimensional accuracy
- Clean cut face
- No post-processing needed
- Excellent for gears
Cons
- Formaldehyde fumes — serious ventilation required
- CO2 only
- High power settings needed for thick material
- Cut edges can have slight melt sheen
- Expensive per sheet
Best For
- Precision gears|Bushings|Mechanical prototyping|Robotics parts|CNC-alternative for flat parts
Avoid For
- Diode lasers|Poor ventilation environments|Food contact without certification
Storage
Store flat and dry. No special requirements beyond keeping free of dust and moisture.
Laser Compatibility
CO2 80W ONLY. Formaldehyde gas is produced — full exhaust essential, no exceptions. 6mm sheet: 8mm/s, 100% power, 1 pass. 3mm: 20mm/s, 85%, 1 pass. No air assist — disrupts cut quality. Engrave: 300mm/s, 50% for clean engraving on surface.
