Anycubic Kobra 3 Complete Setup Guide: Unboxing, Calibration, and First Print
Overview
The Anycubic Kobra 3 is a Klipper-based FDM printer with a 255x255x260mm build volume, 600mm/s rated speed, and ACE Pro multi-material support. This guide covers unboxing through your first successful print.
Assembly
- Attach the gantry to Z-axis extrusions, 4x M5 bolts — check square before torquing
- Install spool holder or ACE Pro rear bracket
- Connect cables: toolhead chain, 24V power, touchscreen
- Level the frame: loosen then re-tighten the four base corner screws
Auto-Leveling (LeviQ 2.0)
Prepare → Auto-leveling. The nozzle probes a 7x7 grid. Run this after every print surface change or move.
Z-Offset
Prepare → Calibrate → Z-offset. Paper drag test: light resistance is correct. Too loose = first layer gaps, too tight = nozzle drags bed.
OrcaSlicer Settings
Import the built-in profile: Printer → Add Printer → Anycubic → Kobra 3, or set these manually:
- Build volume: 255x255x260mm
- Nozzle: 0.4mm
- Bed temp (PLA): 60°C
- Nozzle temp (PLA): 220°C
- Max print speed: 250mm/s (safe daily)
- Retraction: 0.5mm at 40mm/s
- First layer height: 0.28mm
Recommended PLA Settings
- Layer height: 0.2mm
- Perimeters: 3
- Infill: 15% gyroid
- Print speed: 200mm/s
- First layer speed: 30mm/s
- Fan: off first layer, 100% from layer 2
Your First Print
Start with a small, well-tested model (a calibration cube or a small benchy) rather than a large or intricate print. This confirms bed adhesion, first-layer quality, and basic dimensional accuracy before you commit hours to something bigger. Watch the first 3-5 layers in person — most print failures on a newly-assembled printer show up in that window, and catching a bad first layer early saves filament and time versus discovering a failed print an hour in.
Common Issues
- First layer not sticking: Bed to 65°C, lower Z-offset 0.05mm, IPA wipe the PEI surface.
- Stringing: Lower nozzle to 215°C, retraction to 0.8mm, enable combing in slicer.
- Elephant foot: Z-offset too close — raise 0.05mm.
