Updating Flipper Zero Firmware and Installing Unleashed or RogueMaster
Updating Flipper Zero Firmware and Installing Unleashed or RogueMaster The stock firmware is solid but community forks unlock additional features, extra Sub-GHz frequencies, more protocols, and additional apps. Here's how to update and switch firmware. Firmware Options Recommendation: Start with Official. Move to Unleashed or Momentum when you want more. Method 1 — qFlipper (Official Tool, Any Firmware) 1. Download qFlipper from flipper.net 2. Connect Flipper via USB 3. qFlipper shows current firmware version 4. Click Update for official firmware 5. For custom firmware: File Manager → Install from file → select .tgz file Method 2 — Web Updater (Official Only) 1. Visit lab.flipper.net 2. Connect Flipper via USB-C 3. Select channel: Release, Release Candidate, or Dev 4. Click Install — browser handles the flash Installing Unleashed 1. Go to github.com/DarkFlippers/unleashed-firmware/releases 2. Download latest .tgz file (e.g., unleashed-firmware-X.XX.tgz) 3. Open qFlipper → File Manager 4. Install from file → select .tgz 5. Flipper updates and reboots Installing Momentum 1. Go to github.com/Next-Flip/Momentum-Firmware/releases 2. Download .tgz 3. Same process via qFlipper Verifying Installation On Flipper: Settings → Firmware — shows current version string. Unleashed shows UL-X.XX, Momentum shows MOM-X.XX. Restoring to Official If a custom firmware causes issues: 1. Hold Back + Left while powering on → DFU mode 2. Or just use qFlipper → Update → select Release channel → flash official After Updating All saved files (RFID, NFC, Sub-GHz) persist — stored on SD card Settings may reset — re-apply display brightness, time, etc. Re-install apps from the App Catalog (lab.flipper.net/apps) as needed
