Updating Kobra 3 Firmware via USB

Before You Start

Check your current firmware: Settings → About on the printer touchscreen
Download the latest firmware from Anycubic's official site — match it exactly to your model (Kobra 3, not Kobra 3 Combo or Max)
Use a FAT32-formatted USB drive, 32GB or smaller

Why Update Firmware at All

Firmware updates on the Kobra 3 typically bring bug fixes for print stability, improvements to Klipper-side motion control, ACE Pro compatibility fixes, and occasionally new features exposed on the touchscreen. Check the changelog on Anycubic's firmware page before updating — if a release only fixes something unrelated to issues you're having, it's reasonable to skip it and wait for the next one rather than update on every release.

Firmware Update Process

1. Prepare the USB Drive

Format the drive as FAT32. Copy the firmware .bin file to the root of the drive — not inside any folder.

2. Power Down the Printer

Turn off the Kobra 3 completely. Don't just put it to sleep.

3. Insert USB and Power On

Insert the USB drive, then power the printer on. The update screen should appear automatically within 30 seconds.

4. Wait for Completion

Do not touch anything during the update. The process takes 2–5 minutes. The printer will reboot when done.

5. Verify the Update

Go to Settings → About and confirm the new firmware version is shown.

If the Update Doesn't Start

Confirm the file is in the root of the drive, not in a subfolder
Try a different USB drive — some larger or newer drives have compatibility issues
Make sure the filename hasn't been altered (some browsers add suffixes on download)
Re-format as FAT32 using a tool like Rufus on Windows rather than the built-in formatter

Recovery: If the Printer Bricks

Power cycle it with the USB still inserted
If it still won't boot, try a completely different USB drive with a fresh download
Contact Anycubic support — they have a recovery firmware package for hard-brick scenarios

ACE Pro Firmware

The ACE Pro hub has its own firmware updated separately. Check the same Anycubic page for ACE Pro firmware and follow the same USB process. Update the printer first, then the ACE Pro.

Will updating erase my settings or calibration? Firmware updates generally preserve stored calibration (Z-offset, e-steps) since these live in separate config storage, but it's good practice to note down your Z-offset before updating in case a specific release resets it.
Do I need to update in sequence, or can I skip versions? You can normally jump straight to the latest version — Anycubic's firmware images are full images, not incremental patches.
Can I go back to an older firmware version if the new one causes problems? Yes — download the older .bin from Anycubic's firmware page and run the same USB process. It's treated as just another update.
