Overview
Polyimide (PI) tape used as a high-temperature bed surface. Withstands continuous 260°C — survives bed temps used for ABS, PC, and engineering polymers. Applied in strips or as a large-format sheet. Old-school technique but still preferred for some materials over PEI.

Pros
  • Survives 260°C bed temperature — no other tape-based surface matches this
  • Good ABS adhesion at 100-110°C
  • Thin (25-75µm) — minimal Z-height impact
  • Chemical resistant
  • Low cost per roll
  • Smooth surface gives smooth first layer
Cons
  • Bubble-free application is difficult — requires practice and squeegee
  • Tears during print removal on ABS if print sticks too well
  • Not reusable — must replace periodically
  • Requires separate bed surface to adhere to
  • Not needed for PLA/PETG (PEI is better)
  • Can lift at edges if not pressed firmly
Best For
  • ABS printing|PC printing|PA/Nylon with Garolite unavailable|High-temp engineering materials|Printers without PEI option|When smooth Z-surface is needed
Avoid For
  • PLA (PEI is better)|TPU and flexible materials|Large first layer area (bubbles visible)|Beginners (application technique needed)
Storage
Store roll in zip-lock bag. Apply with plastic scraper/squeegee in overlapping strips. Replace when discolored, torn, or delaminating. Wipe with IPA before each print.
