Longer Ray5 20W
Buying notes: Longer Ray5 20W
Who it suits
Hobbyists who want an open-frame diode laser that cuts thicker wood and acrylic than the 5W or 10W Ray5. Longer says it cuts 15 mm pine and 8 mm acrylic in one pass. It works with LightBurn and LaserGRBL.
Known issues and quirks
It is not enclosed, so you need ventilation and eye protection. A review of the 5W model found its fire sensor did not trigger in testing, so don't rely on built-in safety. Longer lists a larger spot for the 20W and recommends the 5W or 10W for fine lines.
Common upgrades and accessories
An air-assist interface, an air pump, a rotary roller and risers are sold with it. An enclosure is a common add-on.
Tips
Run a power and speed test on each material. For charring, lower the power, speed up or improve airflow; clean the lens when marks turn faint. Try another USB cable if the connection drops.
