Getting Started with Flipper Zero: The Complete Beginner Guide
The Flipper Zero is a portable multi-tool for hardware and wireless protocol exploration. It reads, stores, and emulates RFID cards, NFC tags, IR remotes, sub-GHz RF signals, and communicates via GPIO with external electronics.
First Boot
Power on by holding the back button for 3 seconds. Navigate with D-pad, OK to select, Back to go back.
Update Firmware First
The stock firmware ships dated. Update via:
- Flipper Mobile App (iOS/Android over Bluetooth)
- qFlipper desktop tool (Windows/Mac/Linux via USB) — more reliable for large updates

Custom Firmware
Unleashed Firmware and RogueMaster unlock features disabled in official firmware. These are the most popular community options.
The Main Features
Sub-1 GHz (SubGHz)
Reads, records, and replays signals in 300–928 MHz. Common uses: garage doors, gate remotes, weather stations, tire pressure sensors.
RFID (125 kHz)
Reads and emulates low-frequency RFID cards used in many building access systems. Hold card to back near coil symbol.
NFC (13.56 MHz)
Reads Mifare Classic and Ultralight tags, NTAG cards, bank cards (public data only).
Infrared (IR)
Universal remote control. Built-in remotes for popular TV brands, or clone any IR remote.
Bad USB
Acts as USB HID device that types keystrokes. Scripts use DuckyScript format.
GPIO Header

The SD Card
Insert a MicroSD card (any size, FAT32). The SD card stores captured signals, scripts, IR databases, and custom apps.
