Running a 3D Relief Carve in Vectric Aspire — Roughing and Finishing 3D relief carving is where the Wolfpawn and Aspire really shine together. Two-pass machining — roughing then finishing — is the standard approach. Workflow Overview 1. Import 3D model or relief file (STL, OBJ, or Aspire's built-in clipart) 2. Position and scale in the 3D view 3. Create Roughing toolpath 4. Create Finishing toolpath 5. Simulate both — check for issues 6. Export and cut Roughing Toolpath Removes bulk material fast. Accuracy isn't critical here. Bit: 1/8" flat end mill or ball nose Strategy: Raster (X or Y direction) Leave 0.5 mm stock for the finishing pass. Finishing Toolpath Removes the 0.5 mm stock with high detail. Bit: 1/8" ball nose (smaller = more detail but longer runtime) Strategy: Raster at 45° or offset Stepover vs Quality: 5% = very smooth, long runtime 10% = visible scallops, fast 8% is usually the sweet spot Run Time Estimation Aspire shows estimated time. Expect finishing to take 2–5× longer than roughing. Post-Processing 3D Carves Sand lightly (220 grit) across the carve to remove fuzz and scallops Tack cloth to remove dust Oil finish (tung oil, danish oil) brings out the wood grain beautifully Sealer coat before paint if painting
