3D Printing: Fixing Under-Extrusion
Diagnosing and Fixing Under-Extrusion Under-extrusion manifests as 'mesh-like' walls, gaps between lines, or brittle parts. 1. Check for Clogs Perform a 'Cold Pull' using a piece of nylon or PLA. If the tip comes out with black debris, your nozzle is clogged. 2. Extruder Tension Check the spring-loaded arm on your extruder. If it's too loose, the gear will slip. If it's too tight, it will crush the filament. 3. Calibrate E-Steps Ensure the printer is actually pushing 100mm when you ask for 100mm. See the 'E-Step Calibration' guide for details. 4. Nozzle Temperature If you are printing too fast at too low a temperature, the filament won't melt fast enough. Try increasing your temp by 10C.
