Implementing Material Docking and Pre-heating on CNC-Laser Hybrids
The Problem with Cold Material
On larger production runs, particularly with the WolfPawn CNC, materials often start cold. Laser absorption, especially when cutting dense materials, can be inconsistent for the first few seconds until the surface temperature stabilizes, leading to incomplete first cuts.
Protocol
1. Docking: Program the CNC to pause and dock the laser module over the material for 2-3 seconds before initiating the cut, ensuring the air assist is purging the nozzle. 2. Pre-heat (Advanced): Implement a 5% power 'pilot light' during the docking phase. This low-power beam will pre-stabilize the material surface temperature at the start point, ensuring maximum cutting efficiency from the very first mm.
