Laser: Cutting and Engraving Leather

Leather cuts easily but produces a very strong, lingering 'burnt hair' smell. Proper ventilation is mandatory.

1. Use Veg-Tan Leather

Only use Vegetable Tanned (Veg-Tan) leather. Chrome-tanned leather can release toxic chromium gas when burned.

2. Masking

Apply masking tape to the surface to prevent soot from staining the leather fibers around the cut.

3. Settings

• Cut: High power, moderate speed (e.g., 300mm/min).
• Engrave: Low power, high speed to get a dark brown 'branding' look.

4. Post-Process

After cutting, use a damp cloth to wipe the edges. Apply a leather conditioner to restore moisture to the area around the burn.
